Livetweet Announcement: Pam & Tommy
We, too, can scarcely believe our eyes
Dames Nation, it’s been too long since we gathered ‘round the old moving picture story appliance to discuss, dissect, and draw conclusions about a film or show. Dame Sophie & Dame Karen most cordially invite you to join us to a livetweet of the first episode of Hulu’s new modern period drama, Pam and Tommy.
The Dirty Details:
When: Wednesday, February 2nd at 8:00pm ET
How: Streaming via Hulu
Where: On Twitter, with the hashtag #PamAndTommy (we’ll bring back the open thread feature when we have the bandwidth for it!)
This miniseries — all about the landmark 1995 scandal combining massive pre-millennium celebrity, Internet commerce, and one famous couple’s private sex tape becoming very public property — looks like it has tremendous potential:
Could be a mess, could be great, could be a great mess! Let’s do this!
As we all know, somehow everything bad that happens to famous hot women is their own fault (mostly for being hot women, which as we all know is intrinsically immoral and must not go un-punished. If they were hot men, then their good looks would be proof of their many well-deserved successes, and none of their actions would be subject to scrutiny of any kind).
The timing of a scripted show on this subject could hardly be better: we’re in an extraordinary moment for re-evaluating our history of harshly judging famous women, especially when they’re scorchingly hot. We hope Pam & Tommy will dodge the pitfalls of lurid voyeurism (a tall order, we know) and sit alongside podcasts like You’re Wrong About and recent documentaries about Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, and survivors of abuse by R. Kelly as a prompt to revisit and reconsider our received wisdom on this chapter in the history of fame.
Please do join us! If we love the first hour, we may even watch the second right away!
