I finally bought something from Out of Print last month (after seeing you mention it in the newsletter numerous times over the years) because I HAD to get a Gashlycrumb Tinies baseball tee for Halloween!
I've been drowning in grading during this hell week, but my sanity refuge was rereading Roger Robinson's poetry collection A Portable Paradise, which is just...soul restoring.
My students were also hitting the wall this week, so today, I simply brought my dog to campus, and her cheery presence in the classroom felt like the equivalent of giving everyone a shot of espresso.
Rather than trying to counteract how unhinged all this vote-counting has made me feel, I've been leaning into it by spending time with the films of Charles Grodin, king of playing "man losing his sanity after prolonged escalating torment," which is, a vibe. For content both comforting in its humor and tonally-relevant in, well, how Charles Grodin spirals, see the wrongly-maligned Elaine May comedic masterpiece Ishtar (1987), Clifford (1994) which also features 44-year-old Martin Short playing a 10-year-old (somehow not the weirdest thing about that movie), Heaven Can Wait (1978) featuring big himbo football player Warren Beatty, or the Albert Brooks comedy that predicts the wonderful pitfalls of reality television Real Life (1978).
Re-watching has been so central to my anxiety management. We tore through nearly all of the extended versions of LOTR, I re-watched The Last Dance, and re-re-re-watched both the Eagles and the Tom Petty documentaries
Please let me introduce you to the House of our illustrious second couple- which I realized I have technically eaten dinner in, as well as seen a play I think. https://www.designsponge.com/2016/07/in-pennsylvania-a-car-dealership-becomes-an-industrial-home.html?fbclid=IwAR2_D2KB3VnYhh7pibg7vIrmI-pw_dyDsyyKlMmOjOPfUu8U7f0euaXOOMc

From Reno, NV: channeling energy by repeatedly checking in with The Nevada Independent, which I donate to (https://thenevadaindependent.com/), and Ralston Reports (https://twitter.com/ralstonreports).
And rewatching Stargate SG-1 (the tv show) with my family.
