At 7:30 PM EST, we shall convene here to collectively watch and kvell over Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, objectively the best Spider-Man movie to date. Whether this is your first time meeting Miles Morales or you wrote your dissertation on him, we’re confident you’ll have a grand time.
I think I'm more in the tank for Spider-Man than for any other male comic book character, so much so that I'm happy to see pretty much any iteration of the character (except Andrew Garfield, sorry, bud! it wasn't you, it was me!)
My boyfriend gets moderately annoyed at how quickly Miles's dad's seemingly lifelong vendetta against Spider-Man evaporates the second he sees him fighting Kingpin but I actually think that's ONE OF THE BEST THINGS
Yes, and I love that he doesn't just automatically exclude Uncle Aaron from that because he finds out about his secret identity too. It's more complicated than that.
Wanna give a shout-out to Shameik Moore's performance, too (I'm going to do this with everyone, probably). He's great in Hulu's Wu-Tang: An American Saga, in a wildly different role (as the future Raekwon the Chef). I love what he's doing with his voice in this performance -- it's so recognizably a young teen caught between his innate sweetness & desire to BE somebody
I read an interview or something where originally he was less intense about his line readings and the director asked him for more and he was like "Oh, you want me to go Full Cage?"
I can't find it at the moment but there's a GREAT video explaining how the animators animated Peter's swinging differently than Miles, giving him way more frames per second to highlight hoe much more swing-proficient he is
by which I mean I would let her nail me and be very intrigued by what she brings to the table, sex-toy-wise. Not that she she get out of the movie or anything.
If you had asked me before this movie, I think I might have said that we did not need another Spider-Man origin story and I would have been ABSOLUTELY wrong. It really shows that the problem with so many reboots and origin stories isn't the fact of them, but that they aren't innovative enough.
On one hand it's ridiculous how man Spiders Men I have seen in my lifetime. On the other MAN are rapid onset superpowers a great analogy for puberty

he still doesn't approve of Spidey's methods!
I love that this movie is fundamentally about how to be a member of a healthy, loving family

Yep
Spider-Noir and the Rubic's Cube: a couple for the ages
Love Looks Better in Color
it's a great ship
"DO I WANT KIDS???" is not not something I ask myself every time I interact with an especially great teen (c.f. Dame Sophie's perfect daughter)
Peter B. losing his shit about the bread
He just needs another chance to give her the bread she deserves :(
AHHHHH YES HERE IT IS MY FAVORITE
I absolutely lost my shit when we saw this in theatre
MY PIZZA JUST GOT HERE THANK GOD
Spoken very much like Peter B. Parker.
I relate to the man for good reason
Lily Tomlin voicing Aunt May makes her canonically gay, which means she and Doc Oc definitely dated
We don't need the monitor is a
TRUE CLASSIC
Spider-Man quip
crying over seahorses I just die
got hit by a drone
STAY FOR THE END CREDITS
and the post-credit scene
the best credit scene EVER
this soundtrack is so good
IF I EXERCISED it might be to this
I mean, personally I would recommend listening to it in more relaxing settings, but yes, as a theoretical matter, it would be great for working out.
THIS SCENE
RETROACTIVE OSCAR FOR BRYAN TYREE HENRY
who is also a wildly gifted comic actor AND can sing like the dickens
Future EGOT Bryan Tyree Henry
IF DAME JUDI HAS ONE SO INDEED SHOULD HE
Prowler STILL doesn't know Miles is Spidey ughhhh my heart

IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT MILES YOU STOP THAT RIGHT NOW
and now Bryan Tyree Dad-ry thinks spidey killed his brotherrrrrrrrr
MAN IN MOTION! Fellow Young Olds will appreciate this song placement
In another universe there’s a Peter B. Parker movie with an 80s butt-rock soundtrack.
it's THIRTY MORE MINUTES until Mine Own pizza gets here and I am not sure how I am supposed to survive
I BELIEVE IN YOU (but I might need to get myself a snack too)

DID YOU KNOW SEAHORSES MATE FOR LIFE MAKING IT WORK????
SHOUT OUT TO THE EXTREMELY LOVING PARENTS
Wanna give a shout-out to Shameik Moore's performance, too (I'm going to do this with everyone, probably). yess! and the movie Dope!
YES! He's a star, no question
if I had a car with a loudspeaker
this is EXACTLY how I'd use it
characterization rings true
The dimensions colliding makes me think of the cover for Taffy Brodesser-Akner's Fleishman Is In Trouble
SAME!!!
QUELLE SURPRISE!!
John Mulaney is perhaps the most inspired voice casting in an extremely well-cast movie
Although I still can't believe they got Nicholas Cage for Spider-Man Noir
spidey-five
on the other hand...Nic Cage tho
yeah, Nicolas Cage, who literally named himself after Luke Cage (and then named his son Kal-El) is a PRETTY great get
I am guessing he must have been very psyched to be asked.
I read an interview or something where originally he was less intense about his line readings and the director asked him for more and he was like "Oh, you want me to go Full Cage?"
Yes! I saw that interview and laughed out loud when I read that.
There is actually one other voice casting choice I like better, but it's a spoiler for anyone seeing this for the first time, so click/read this URL with caution: https://www.bustle.com/p/oscar-isaacs-into-the-spider-verse-cameo-introduces-a-spider-man-we-could-be-seeing-a-lot-more-of-13605268
THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING OUR PARTY
thank you for hosting! loved the decor
spidey bells what a classic tune
batman WHO
I love that Aunt May also calls it a goober
They’re related
YOU could wear the mask
i feel like best I could hope for is Guy in the Chair but it's a nice thought
Spider-Man's emotions are both his REAL superpower AND his undoing
I can't find it at the moment but there's a GREAT video explaining how the animators animated Peter's swinging differently than Miles, giving him way more frames per second to highlight hoe much more swing-proficient he is
THWIP, release!
yes I saw this! Peter is swinging at a higher frame rate, and miles is at like every three frames!
This scene is so genuinely scary-- Predator is so well-designed
(I think that's what the baddie pursuing him is called)
I think so, too. This whole part of the plot breaks my heart
the music and sound effects are spot on
man when Miles sings along but doesn't know all the words, I just died
more like spider-MOOD
RUDE TO POINT
honestly p. considerate of Fisk to wait until Spider-Man gets up again
instead of just finishing him of
he has a CODE
Emmys news thread for those who want it
my sister just texted me that Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Best Actress in a Comedy for Fleabag!!!
yrdsssssssssssss
Hurrah!
OTS WHAT SHE DESERVES
yes please!
this incredible bummer of a reveal
SPIDER-GWENNNNNNN
Doc Oc is the only women with white dreads who could get it
but she could
if it's helpful, I think she just has a lot of magnificent hair volume, not actual dreads
That’s what I was thinking
i think peter ramsey definitely made them dreads as a foreshadowing device
both she and Charlize Theron in Furious 8 use them as a signal that they're villains...but hot villains
I'm alarmed and amused by your fascination with doc oc, Margaret ;)
THE PIZZA SLICE GLITCHING
Doc Oc
Could Get the HELL Out Of It
by which I mean I would let her nail me and be very intrigued by what she brings to the table, sex-toy-wise. Not that she she get out of the movie or anything.
👀
“Oh, it’s Liv.”
I love that they genderswapped Doc Oc from the standard.
Is this actually Chris Pine singing as Spidey???
Apparently yes? https://ew.com/movies/2018/12/24/spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-christmas-album-chris-pine-jake-johnson-shameik-moore/

We have no choice but to stan
Bryan Tyree Henry's Dadness is truly *chef's kiss*
ONE OF TWO ROLES for which his work merited an Oscar nomination last year
Miles' "that's not even how the saying goes!!!!"
I hope everyone has hit play!
So glad they worked in an anvil joke for Peter Porker.
If you had asked me before this movie, I think I might have said that we did not need another Spider-Man origin story and I would have been ABSOLUTELY wrong. It really shows that the problem with so many reboots and origin stories isn't the fact of them, but that they aren't innovative enough.
yeah, they need to go farther to the edges, not to some boring middle
We don't need the SAME origin story over and over, but a new, fun, exciting one is amazing when it happens.
"My friends actually call me Liv. My enemies call me Doc Oc." is so amazing! One of my absolute favorite lines.
same.
I love that singing a song he doesn't know the words to is what he does to relax. It is extremely relatable.
It’s the finger dance
I feel like if I went to an alternate universe I would also go to my favorite restaurants and stores that have closed...
It would be my first stop
Yep. Possibly even if a super villain was trying to end the world. You have to have priorities.
bitches gotta eat!
“A child dressed like Spider-Man dragging a homeless corpse”
lol that line cracks me up every time
This might be my favorite Stan Lee cameo. Seems very fitting - both the statement and that salesman portrayal.
It always fits. Eventually.
Such a fitting comment. But being a bit of a huckster salesman fits too, which I think he would have admitted.
EXTREMELY fitting
