I do not mean to brag BUT. I think all the Lara Jean-ish skirts I listed in the Friday round-up are actually better than this partially pleated one that Lara Jean is really wearing in this sequence.

Got my popcorn, got my Spindrift, just hit play!

My favorite scene in the movie, happening now!

Expand full comment

It’s visually stunning!

Hiiiii friendos!

My dad is a widower and my mom is his second wife. I don't often see similar situations dealt with gracefully, so I so appreciate the Fakesgiving scene.

Expand full comment

I thought the book dealt with that well, too, in kind of an echo of what folks are saying about Peter & John Ambrose each being "right" choices--their dad's ability to date is never portrayed as any kind of evidence that he didn't also love their mom dearly, or that everyone was expected to forget her.

Expand full comment

And Mrs. Rothschild is completely fine hearing a story about Lara Jean and Kitty's mom. When I was little my brothers' grandparents would come to dinner sometimes. I called them grandma and grandpa too.

Expand full comment

The thing is I really think this is Peter trying to be thoughtful; he wasn’t getting those singing valentines to Genevieve because that’s what he does as a boyfriend, but because that’s what Gen as a girlfriend would want. Lara Jean has a different attitude to public attention. Their reality is private!

Expand full comment

If they were still a fake couple, he would have sent them to LJ ...

Expand full comment

Yeah and that’s part of what makes the dynamic so interesting!

Expand full comment

The thing about #TeamPeter v #TeamJohn is that, unlike most other love triangles in popular discourse, there’s not really a wrong choice. Either one will be a kind and thoughtful but imperfect boyfriend to Lara Jean if invited to do so. They’re also both dreamy as hell.

Expand full comment

That's something I super, super appreciate about this series.

Expand full comment

I love that the series isn't all ONE TRUE LOVE ONLY but more "many loves are possible in the course of a lifetime"

Expand full comment

Like if John Ambrose had responded first, he would have been the boyfriend.

“I was obsessed with him in like the fifth grade. Well, him and Michael B Jordan in Creed” wow teens are... much younger than me, somehow

HE SHOWED UP FOR HER. HE LISTENED AND REMEMBERED AND CARED AND HE CAME TO DRIVE HER HOME. IM SOLD.

I love that Gen is here in this slouchy sweatshirt, messy bun combo to show that she’s also vulnerable.

Expand full comment

And that she and Lara Jean are wearing the same thing almost, but in opposing colors.

Expand full comment

And LJ had a Bun of Sadness too!

I know Stormy is brassy and messy but there is some real wisdom to “hearts being broken is part of life”

Seriously, if someone wrote me a letter that said "I like reading with you. You're pretty" NOW, it would work for me.

My teen & I were just like "those are lines that WORK"

i love how Lara Jean's OB/GYN dad is way more permissive than the OB/GYN dad in 10 Things I Hate About You. Progress!!

IT IS AMAZING.

The word “confection” was made for dresses like this.

If an alien had to find out what teen girls like from Reading YA lit, that alien would become a concert pianisy

Oh gosh this retroactively explains a few things about my adolescent bookworm years, trying to "impress" my "friends" with my (middling) piano skills.

OHHHH KATE. OHHHH NOOOOOO.

Expand full comment

I am appreciating that on Twitter there are very clearly two style-coveting factions emerging: Stormy's green outfit* people and Lara Jean's mustard yellow sweater vest** people.

*divine, does excellent things for her eyes, I could not pull off

**would buy and/or knit in several colours, given the opportunity

Expand full comment

I am bifashionable and bisexual

Expand full comment

Would wear both

Expand full comment

“I need a break from the contortions of being someone’s girlfriend” is some real Adult Wife energy; as an anxious girl I really ID with Lara Jean

Expand full comment

Stormy and her plotline are about the only thing I remember clearly from the book; hello, friend! Excellent dress!

Expand full comment

That said, I would absolutely be a knitting club, games-circle-communist resident if we were neighbours.

Expand full comment

Same, but I'd definitely do both with booze in hand, swanning about in gilded brocade

Expand full comment

Isn't she John Ambrose's grandmother in the books?

Expand full comment

Like, ex-step-grandmother, I think

Expand full comment

Yes, I believe it is a late-book twist when they get (very trope-y spoiler) at the nursing home? Or at least that's how it lives in my memory.

Expand full comment

Yes, like she keeps trying to set Lara Jean up with her grandson and Lara Jean isn’t having it and then it turns out it’s HIM

Expand full comment

This movie’s color palette is so turquoise and I enjoy it

A small part of me wishes that LJ got to do the big romantic gesture this time.

This is a SMALL romantic gesture, which is part of why I like it so much

Man I forgot how good LJ’s room is

Expand full comment

First film immediately started. And now we're at the part where Margot crawls into LJ's bed with her shoes on so I'm stopping.

Expand full comment

I love all of this, but am reminded that teen volunteers are the worst!

Expand full comment

I would have been stormy telling her to go, but there’s just two of them!

Expand full comment

There’s so much pink and red in the shot when JAM is there. As opposed to cool blues and greens when LJ is on her own and has her thoughts collected.

Man Valentine’s Day in high school was so weird and intense. I hated it. A boy once sent me poetry written out on the cards of the carnations he’d bought me asking me to prom. Anonymously. I almost died of anxiety. (I went to prom, it was fine, I wouldn’t do it over.)

Expand full comment

OMG I was homeschooled for high school so I just. This? Happens? My Capricorn would dieee

Expand full comment

The singing was more of a college thing, at least for me, but there were definitely THINGS of this nature happening. (This was more of a Mean Girls candy cane scenario, but with carnations.)

Nooooooooo I never saw that in college either! I really need to start keeping an eye out for this lmao
