I do not mean to brag BUT. I think all the Lara Jean-ish skirts I listed in the Friday round-up are actually better than this partially pleated one that Lara Jean is really wearing in this sequence.

My dad is a widower and my mom is his second wife. I don't often see similar situations dealt with gracefully, so I so appreciate the Fakesgiving scene.

Kate B.'s avatar

I thought the book dealt with that well, too, in kind of an echo of what folks are saying about Peter & John Ambrose each being "right" choices--their dad's ability to date is never portrayed as any kind of evidence that he didn't also love their mom dearly, or that everyone was expected to forget her.

And Mrs. Rothschild is completely fine hearing a story about Lara Jean and Kitty's mom. When I was little my brothers' grandparents would come to dinner sometimes. I called them grandma and grandpa too.

The thing is I really think this is Peter trying to be thoughtful; he wasn’t getting those singing valentines to Genevieve because that’s what he does as a boyfriend, but because that’s what Gen as a girlfriend would want. Lara Jean has a different attitude to public attention. Their reality is private!

If they were still a fake couple, he would have sent them to LJ ...

Yeah and that’s part of what makes the dynamic so interesting!

The thing about #TeamPeter v #TeamJohn is that, unlike most other love triangles in popular discourse, there’s not really a wrong choice. Either one will be a kind and thoughtful but imperfect boyfriend to Lara Jean if invited to do so. They’re also both dreamy as hell.

Man Valentine’s Day in high school was so weird and intense. I hated it. A boy once sent me poetry written out on the cards of the carnations he’d bought me asking me to prom. Anonymously. I almost died of anxiety. (I went to prom, it was fine, I wouldn’t do it over.)
