Ever since I was a child, I’ve been told that I’d have to work twice as hard as a White person to earn half as much. My mom and grandma taught me that. This is common knowledge among Black people.

I was going to mention Audre Lorde’s essay about self care, its radical message as it relates to these expectations, and how the notion of self care has been so grossly co-opted but I ran out of time. Concepts like "shop until you drop" play into that, as privileged as that sounds. I try to spend time in nature. Humans invented striving.

Yes, so much of striving is done to buy more and “better” things! Another aspect of this I wanted to get into but ran out of time!
